Kelly Park

The design brief for the Kelly Park tender was specific and a direct result of the input from the community and major stakeholders who worked so hard to turn the dream of this playspace into a reality. Elements such as the double cableway, big tube slide and swings were high priority items based on community feedback. The City of Bunbury called for submissions for the Design and Construction of Kelly Park, incorporating community priorities, a firm budget and a clear time frame for completion. We worked to design a space that included the main feature elements of a double cableway with embankment take off, a huge Adventure tower with tube slide and kayak slide, a swing set combination with toddler, standard and pod swing seats, an inclusive access carousel for all ages and abilities, a nature play trail, talk tubes, musical chimes and a designated early childhood play area. Our use of a PlayMatta universal access pathway through the space allows for those children and adults using mobility aids to play and engage in an inclusive and integrated environment. Our holistic approach resulted in a dynamic and functional playspace, catering for all ages and abilities, with areas for carers to sit and relax whilst maintaining good passive surveillance in order to supervise children effectively. We have also embedded consideration for the long-term maintenance of this space through strategic design and selection of play elements that are built to last.
