Tim Shaw Park in Bunbury has been renewed with a nature-inspired playspace celebrating the beauty of the surrounding Karri forests and the strong connection the local community has with the outdoors.

The new Karri Forest Explorers playspace offers something for children of all ages and abilities, with a colourful inclusive multiplay unit featuring open-ended climbing and sliding opportunities, an interactive sand play station, tile slide frog puzzle, florist shop counter and Aussie Animal Moves panel. A dedicated junior play area provides opportunities for younger explorers, while a variety of climbing elements and obstacle-style challenges encourage children to build confidence, balance and physical skills.

Imaginative play is at the heart of the playspace, with a dedicated mud kitchen providing a space for children to create, communicate and role-play, whether they’re running their own shop, cooking up muddy creations or sharing their treasures with friends.

Inclusive play has been thoughtfully incorporated throughout the design, with synthetic turf access pathways connecting key play elements, ramp access to the main play unit, an inclusive spinning bowl and a basket swing providing opportunities for children of varying abilities to play alongside one another.

Extensive shade coverage over the swings and junior play areas helps create a comfortable space for families to enjoy, while the natural-inspired design complements the surrounding parkland and reflects the towering Karri trees and bushland that inspired the project.

The result is a welcoming, adventurous and inclusive playspace where children can climb, swing, explore, imagine and discover their own way to play.
