We recently teamed up with WA Country Health Service to create a unique playground at Bunbury Regional Hospital, right here in our local community. This one-of-a-kind space is designed to provide a safe and engaging area for young patients, visitors, and their families.

Located near the paediatric ward, the playground is crafted to engage children through sensory experiences and imaginative play. Featuring interactive sensory panels, farm-themed equipment, and a shopfront, this unique design helps kids connect with the natural surroundings of Western Australia’s South West while they play and explore.

Designed with community feedback, including input from the hospital’s paediatric nursing and medical teams, the playground reflects a focus on age-appropriate, engaging play that supports children’s learning, creativity, and sense of comfort during hospital stays or visits. To enhance safety and enjoyment, the space also includes shaded areas and colourful murals.

Bunbury Regional Hospital Director, Jeff Calver, emphasized the importance of the playground’s role in providing a welcoming outdoor space: “The design of the playground incorporated feedback from our hospital community. We’re proud that this space will offer play, learning, and respite for kids and their families, for years to come.”

Sustainability was a key consideration, with our Play Matta safety surfacing made from recycled materials to reduce landfill, cut emissions, and minimize chemical use compared to traditional playground materials.

We’re especially proud to see this project come to life in our local community, exemplifying how thoughtful design and collaboration can transform spaces and support the well-being of children and families.
