St Mary’s CPS – Early Childhood Playspace

Our design for the playspace in the Early Childhood area was inspired by the natural aesthetics of the site, with use of equipment from a colour pallet of lush trees, creek beds, pops of native flower colour and grassy open spaces. We wanted to provide opportunities for children to engage their senses and explore a variety of play elements as they learn about their world. Inclusion of equipment such as the Diabolo Adventure Multiplay unit will encourage the development of upper body strength, gross motor skills, as well as ignite children’s imaginations through engagement in social play and oral language with their peers. The final product is reflective of inclusive design principles, ensuring children with special needs are catered for through the incorporation of sensory play (tactile play and auditory), spinning activities to engage the vestibular system, social play via unitary surfacing and game play.
