We’re proud to celebrate Community, Culture & Nature with the installation of a truly unique play feature at Mary Carroll Park – the Gilgie Play Structure. Inspired by the much-loved freshwater crayfish found throughout Western Australia, this one-of-a-kind design is a vibrant tribute to local heritage and environment.

The Gilgie not only sparks imaginative play but also shares stories – weaving Noongar cultural narratives into a tactile, climbable form that invites children to connect with the land and its history. Its playful curves and bright detailing reflect the park’s natural setting, encouraging kids to explore, climb, and discover just like the real freshwater creatures hidden beneath the surface.

Part of the park’s new all-abilities playspace, the Gilgie sits alongside inclusive pathways, sensory-rich equipment, and accessible play zones, ensuring children of all ages and abilities can join in the fun. Since opening, it’s already proven a community favourite – a place where local families gather, play, and celebrate the unique spirit of Western Australia.
